John Fitzpatrick. About New China, the Koreas, Myanmar, Thailand, and also about Japanese and Chinese writers and poets. The main emphasis is on North Asia and the political tectonics of this very important, powerful, and many-peopled area.

CLOWN WATCH: Finished work this evening then spent three hours cruising the streets of Manunda and Holloways Beach in the Big White Truck, on volunteer Neighbourhood Watch Clown Patrol; I saw a few clowning around in the shadows...one carrying the standard rubber chicken by the throat, another tooting on a horn in the darkness...another covered in blood. I saw another one who could only be discerned by the glowing red nose (Holloways) just near the shops there...the usual antics...but he was a bit spooky, to tell the truth... It was fascinating to see the clown with the little steering wheel fixed to his chest, swerving here and there on the beach road and honking that damn silly horn...tripping over his own big stupid shoes... All basic Axis I Borderline Clown Disorder symptoms. No real threat, unless they get angry...or hungry...or know where you live.
