Australia will always be late to the party. We are a long way away from things that matter. We are a big space with a small population. We are fearful of being exactly where we are. We are terribly fearful of being who we are. We have tightened friendships with the UK and the USA but have made no friends in Asia, where we live. A few hundred organised years, and still not one friend. I recall an Australian Labor Party PM saying we must adjust our view to an Asian Future 30 years after that had already happened. We still have no friends in Asia at all. Our convict stock was always behooving and kneeling to the UK, and now it is the USA. We have an AUKUS deal about nuclear powered submarines from the USA, although we know we wont actually ever get them...and that, to us, doesn't matter. This will be an extraordinary gift of hundreds of billions of Australian dollars to the USA general revenue. We acknowledge that we need to give them our money and receive nothing. We know that. we know our place. We haven't evolved very much, even with every opportunity to do so. We haven't ever disagreed with the USA. We are not anywhere near being an independent nation in any way or form. Well, once, we did go against that grain, for sure, just the once...and of all people to do that it was that Tony Liberal Party guy who quickly signed a trade deal with China when the USA ordered us not to. Because China told us to. Just once in more than one hundred years of ally-ship. Just that once. What can you say bout Australia? Gutless? True. Recidivist? True. Supplicant? True. War mongering? True. Stooges? True. Running Dogs? True. But let's not just focus on the positives for now. One day we may even have our own flag. Imagine that! Oh, too scary. One day our government may even make one more small decision for us that is actually good for us. Don't hold your breath.
