Netherlands 5, Spain 1.

the outstanding goal marathon of Netherlands in demolishing Spain 5-1 was great to witness. What a great game.

great Game 1, and the next 3 are really interesting

Well the game between Brazil (3) and Croatia (1) was a great game. the dazzling speed of the young Brazilians was great as was the exceptional attacks by Croatia. With a different referee it could have been 3-3...but as it was,  it was a great start.

Tomorrow, (I would think) Mexico V Cameroon...(1-0), Spain V Netherlands (1-1), Chile V Australia (3-0)

204 countries try to get into the World Cup and only 32 actually qualify, based upon their efforts and professional results, so for Australia to be there (and for the 3rd consecutive Cup) is quite remarkable and no mean feat at all...but Australia will still have the hardest time.

World Cup/First game: Friday 0600 AEST: Brazil V Croatia

Summary:
With Brazil ranked as #3 in the world, and Croatia as #18, these are both very good, high ranked, soccer teams with a lot expected of them. The pressure will be on Brazil, playing the first game at the brand new 61,000 seat Sao Paulo stadium (in the territory of the famous Corinthians team with its volatile and passionate supporters).

Noting:
Croatia can score goals against Brazil and Croatia does have a more integrated and stronger defence array.
Brazil does have high quality length-of-field sprinting attack skills based upon individuals, as always, and their game is defined by this. Brazil is a young fast team.

If Brazil plays their first game carefully, they should win by 1-0. If Brazil turns on the attacking speed and makes it 'the beautiful game' and thus makes it's own defence vulnerable, then I expect Brazil will win 3-1. Watch for aerial goals from Brazil's Hulk, and long-drive shots from Brazil's Fred.

Expected Outcome: Brazil 3-1 Croatia.
