By the way, I'm not saying that the North Korean Government shouldn't change, but I'm just noting that it is a secure and quite potent regime that is highly unlikely to change through force or threat, with either Kim Jong Un at the top or
장성택 Jang Son Taek taking over if necessary...so what is the wisest thing to do in this situation?
This part of North Asia is the only place a world war can actually happen...the war forces of USA, Russia, Japan, Korea and China all embroiled in the one hot war for territory, for control, for trade. That can't happen anywhere else, not with the Great Powers face to face like that, directly confronting each other, rather than just fighting through proxy-states as in the past, or as in the Middle East now...that's small scale compared to this..
So, what is wisest to do?
John Fitzpatrick. About New China, the Koreas, Myanmar, Thailand, and also about Japanese and Chinese writers and poets. The main emphasis is on North Asia and the political tectonics of this very important, powerful, and many-peopled area.

DPRK and Change
The issue with North Korea DPRK is that the regime/the government is quite secure compared with the Governments of Russia, Georgia, France, Spain, UK.
장성택 or Jang Son Taek has been the Vice Chairman of the NDC since 2010 and may well be the next DPRK Premier/Head of State under Kim Jong Un.
Jang also has the connections, education and has the credentials to replace Kim Jong Un if circumstances go that way. At the moment Jang is the Supreme Leader's chief adviser on military and political matters. Although we may wish the regime to change in DPRK North Korea this is highly unlikely to happen, and should the leader change, well, there are fresh leaders also waiting. DPRK cannot be changed through force of war. So we must therefore deal with, negotiate with, sanction DPRK rather than just get upset with them simply because they are the worst government on earth. As well as being the worst government on earth they are also one of the most secure governments on earth.

The DPRK North Korean chief adviser for the Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un remains Jang Song Taek
