"we did ruckus runs in at sunset in kandihar and fallujah. we'd go in at sunset to coordinates in a town and take the house with stun grenades. we'd only kill males of military age, 12 up, if they looked dodgy, then we'd drag the family into the street and blow the house. then we'd go away and....um, didnt lie on the floor straight away, if the boys didnt lie down straight away, and then we went out in to that darkness and waited. pretty soon people would come to help dressed as paramedics or just neighbours and our snipers would take them out and every now and then a few of the people who came to help the family were taliban or sunni, depending upon the cultures, places, so they were high grade targets; and it taught the family and the town who they should depend on.
it was spooky and so ice was good to wind you up to start and heroin was good to get you down to sleep. you could get the stuff from mates or from the enemy. it just flows.
then if we were lucky on the way home from the tour we'd have a week to blow pussy and smack in bangkok and just hang out. i love my mates and trusted them. that's what i learned and miss. we all had to trust each other to get through.
